At the time of Napoleon's invasion, the garrison of Cairo consisted of seven infantry corps and a number of irregular units.

Not every Egyptian warrior could afford a gun. Some groups didn't use one at all, giving preference to traditional cold steel.

Despite individual fighting skills of the Egyptian defenders being much greater then these of soldiers in Napoleon's army, the firepower of the French army gained them easy victories.
